About Me

I was born and raised in Shenyang, China. Living in a big city, there weren’t many opportunities for art or entomology. In high school I moved to Morrison, IL, where I was able to participate in small juried art shows here and there. It wasn’t until I went to Augustana College where I met Dr. Tierney Brosius that I truly fell in love with entomology as a whole, even though I’d been an insect curator the year prior, focusing mainly on butterflies.
Research
Under the guidance and encouragement of Dr. Brosius, I conducted my first summer research project in 2024. This initiative focused on bridging science and art to educate the public about local beetle diversity in the Quad Cities area, fostering a general understanding of microfauna.
Following the conclusion of this research, I had the honor of participating in the 2024 conference held by the Entomological Society of America in Arizona. My work earned me second place in the undergraduate poster competition.
In April 2025, to culminate the research project, we collaborated with Wendy DeSchene and Jeff Schmuki to create a campus mural. This artistic endeavor aimed to visually showcase the amazing local beetle diversity to students and the wider community.
